Vietnamese Ambassador to Indonesia Ta Van Thong said his country and Indonesia have agreed to increase trade value to USD 18 billion (around IDR 294.7 trillion) this year, amidst the continued development of strategic partnerships. "Both parties agreed to immediately increase two-way trade to 18 billion US dollars," Ambassador Ta Van Thong said at the Annual Press Conference at the Vietnamese Embassy in Jakarta, Wednesday, February 12th 2025. Ta Van Thong noted that Indonesia is currently Vietnam's third largest trading partner. Meanwhile, Vietnam itself is Indonesia's fourth largest trading partner among other countries in the ASEAN region. Two-way trade between the two countries continues to grow positively, increasing from USD 9 billion (around IDR 147.3 trillion) in 2019 to more than USD 16.7 billion (around IDR 273.3 trillion) in 2024.
Considering the growing strategic partnership between the two, the two sides agreed to increase the trade value to USD 18 billion (around IDR 294.7 trillion) this year. To achieve this target, Ta Van Thong said his country encourages business players to invest in each other's markets, especially in new areas such as the halal industry, digital economy, green economy, green transition, and the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem. He also said that leading Vietnamese companies and corporations such as VinFast and FPT have been actively promoting investment in Indonesia. Meanwhile, Ta Van Thong also mentioned that this year, Vietnam and Indonesia will celebrate their 80th Independence Day and the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. Ta Van Thong expressed that he is confident that the friendship and cooperation between the two countries will continue to develop, fulfilling the common aspirations of our peoples. Together, we will work to elevate the Vietnam-Indonesia strategic partnership to a higher level as agreed by the high-level leaders of the two countries.
