Deputy Minister of Trade, Dyah Roro Esti Widya Putri, emphasized that Indonesia must embrace and utilize the ongoing digital transformation to enhance trade efficiency, ensure inclusivity, and navigate global economic challenges. She discussed this during the 22nd Economix: Global Economic Challenges event at the University of Indonesia. According to her, the technological revolution has accelerated global trade processes, changing how countries and companies engage in the economic ecosystem. She also highlighted how technology is bridging countries in mutually beneficial value chains, especially with the growth of digital services exports, which now outpace the growth of other goods and services.
Roro further explained that the adoption of digital trade provisions in Regional Trade Agreements (RTAs) has increased significantly, with digital trade now representing 33% of all RTAs. This trend reinforces the notion that digital trade is becoming a fundamental part of global trade agreements. She also addressed the importance of privacy and consumer protection in digital trade and pointed out the challenges of infrastructure gaps, complex regulations, and cybersecurity risks. Additionally, the Ministry of Trade has launched Inaexport, a platform to connect Indonesian exporters with global buyers, enhancing market access and facilitating business interactions.
