ASEAN’s blue economy presents a strategic opportunity for businesses and investors, with projections of USD 3 trillion in global economic impact and 43 million new jobs by 2030. To accelerate this growth, the ASEAN Blue Innovation Expo and Business Matching will be held on 19 February 2025, in Jakarta, bringing together businesses, investors, and policymakers to explore sustainable maritime innovations. According to Jatu Arum Sari, Project Manager of ASEAN Blue Economy Innovation (ABEI) UNDP Indonesia, the event will feature 60 cutting-edge innovations from startups, MSMEs, NGOs, and academics, selected from 1,300 applicants. These include digital aquaculture, plastic-free biotechnology, and blue carbon conservation, promoting economic growth and ecosystem preservation.
Additionally, the event will also launch ASEAN Blue Economy Innovation (ABEI), a collaboration between UNDP, ASEAN, and Japan, aligned with the ASEAN Blue Economy Framework (2023) to drive inclusive economic development. With rising sea levels and overfishing threats, Jatu stresses the urgency of innovative solutions. The event will host top investors and business leaders, discussing sustainable fisheries, climate action, plastic waste reduction, and eco-friendly tourism. This initiative unlocks new opportunities for sustainable growth while protecting vital ecosystems.
