Mahkota Java Coffee from Garut, West Java, participated in the Jejak Kopi Khatulistiwa (Equatorial Coffee Trail - ECT) programme, organised by PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. The programme aims to encourage the improvement of national coffee products to achieve food self-sufficiency, facilitate access to global markets and enhance the financial inclusion of Indonesian coffee farmers. The ECT programme has the potential to improve the green economy for export-oriented coffee Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). The programme offers support, including education, curation, incubation, business matching, and financial transaction solutions. As of December 2024, BNI had disbursed IDR 67.2 billion in credit to 525 coffee farmers in Indonesia. The programme's reach extends to the districts of Humbang Hasundutan, North Sumatra; Rejang Lebong, South Sumatra; Garut, West Java; Jember, East Java; and Temanggung, Central Java.
The development and potential of Garut Coffee, a newcomer to the variety of Indonesian coffee, attracted BNI to support farmers and MSMEs, to strengthen competitiveness and produce the best coffee with a high selling value. Mahkota Java Coffee produces its own coffee beans and processes coffee that produces the highest-grade coffee. They were one of the winners of the competition organised by the Alliance of Coffee Excellence. BNI Xpora's support for Garut Coffee has facilitated the expansion of the coffee business into global markets. Since 2018, the owner of Mahkota Java Coffee, who also founded the Kasuga Farmer Group, has been exporting coffee to Taiwan and Singapore, achieving a total of 100 tonnes sold in a single year. Presently, Mahkota Java Coffee is preparing to export to South Korea.
