The government is set to provide incentives for industries that contribute to carbon emission reduction (decarbonization) as outlined in the Draft Bill on New and Renewable Energy (RUU EBET). This policy aims to accelerate the achievement of Indonesia’s Net Zero Emissions (NZE) target. According to Eniya Listiani, Director General of New Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation (EBTKE) at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), these incentives will be implemented through a carbon economic value mechanism. "One key provision in the bill ensures that industries or businesses making efforts to lower emissions will receive incentives based on carbon economic value," she stated at the inauguration of Toyota Indonesia’s Hydrogen Refueling Station (HRS) in Karawang on Tuesday (February 11, 2025). Once RUU EBET is passed, the technical details regarding the incentive models will be further regulated. "The real model is yet to be determined as we await the bill’s enactment," she added.
This policy is expected to encourage more industries to engage in decarbonization, aligning with President Prabowo’s vision for energy self-sufficiency and a transition toward clean energy. In support of this initiative, Apit Pria Nugraha, Head of the Green Industry Center at the Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin), emphasized that infrastructure development, such as HRS, aligns with the industrial sector’s decarbonization roadmap. Kemenperin remains committed to promoting low-emission technologies and accelerating the commercialization of environmentally friendly products. These efforts are anticipated to drive Indonesia’s industrial transformation toward a green economy and support the nation’s NZE goals.
