PT Pelindo Terminal Petikemas, the container terminal operator, reported a 10.28% increase in international container traffic in 2024, reaching 3,995,525 TEUs, compared to 3,623,006 TEUs in 2023. This growth was seen in both export and import containers, with exports rising by 10.58% to 2,060,679 TEUs, and imports increasing by 9.96% to 1,922,855 TEUs. Transshipment containers also grew from 10,827 TEUs in 2023 to 11,990 TEUs in 2024. Terminal growth was noted in Semarang and Surabaya, with the Semarang terminal seeing a 13% increase in international container traffic due to added ship visits and rising container production.
In Surabaya’s TPS, international container traffic grew by 9.65%, from 1,375,927 TEUs in 2023 to 1,508,743 TEUs in 2024, driven by a higher number of ship visits. The Tanjung Priok 2 terminal also saw a significant 45% growth, from 387,798 TEUs in 2023 to 563,113 TEUs in 2024. Despite challenges, the Indonesian Exporters Association (GPEI) acknowledged that exporters remained resilient and continued to grow throughout 2024.
