The Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Airlangga Hartarto, assessed that Indonesia's plan to join the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development) can strengthen investment. This step can realize the economic growth target of up to 8% as planned by President Prabowo Subianto. "Well, next, with this OECD, we hope that the economy can continue to increase in accordance with President Prabowo's direction. We want to reach 8% and the key is, one of them is investment," said Airlangga in his remarks at the OECD Anti-Bribery Convention Technical Meeting at the Borobudur Hotel, Central Jakarta, Monday (10/2/2025).
Airlangga explained that the investment climate has a major influence on a country's economic growth. Moreover, in the midst of a global situation that is experiencing an increase in security. According to him, Indonesia's plan to join the OECD will widen opportunities for cooperation, especially in the ASEAN and Asia Pacific regions. "So of course we have to strengthen our friends in the Asia Pacific, including ASEAN, Japan, and various cooperation that we do in ASEAN countries. And of course we need more friends, namely friends in the OECD," he added. The OECD or Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development is an organization consisting of a number of specific countries. This international organization focuses on the economic development of its member countries and the broader market economy. In the OECD, there are 38 member countries that represent at least 80% of world trade activities. Of these, 33 countries are developed countries, and the rest are developing countries.
