Tourism Minister Widiyanti Putri Wardhana said the number of workers in the tourism sector grew by around 2.5% along with the number of tourist visits which also increased in the 2023-2024 period. "In terms of workforce absorption, the number of tourism workers in 2024 was recorded at 25.01 million people, growing by 2.5% compared to 24.41 million in 2023," she said after meeting President Prabowo Subianto at the Presidential Palace complex in Jakarta on Wednesday. With this growth, she is optimistic that the tourism sector will continue to develop and contribute more to the national Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), the tourism sector in Indonesia shows a positive trend in the number of tourist visits.In the fourth quarter of 2024, the number of foreign tourist visits reached 3.37 million visits, growing by 10.3% compared to the same period the previous year. On the domestic tourist side, the number of domestic tourist trips in the fourth quarter of 2024 was recorded at 263.13 million trips, an increase of 23.2% compared to the fourth quarter of 2023. Overall, in 2024, the total tourist visits reached 13.74 million, an increase of 18% compared to 2023. The total number of domestic tourist trips reached more than 1 billion trips, an increase of 22% compared to the previous year. With this achievement, Tourism Minister Widiyanti is optimistic that the tourism sector will continue to have a positive impact on the national economy and create more jobs in the future.
