PT Bukit Asam Tbk (PTBA) has successfully recorded the highest sales record in history, as seen from the total coal sales throughout 2024 reaching 42.9 million tons or growing 16% annually (year on year/yoy). As a comparison, Bukit Asam's coal sales achieved in the last four years, namely in 2020 amounting to 26.1 million tons, then 28.4 million tons in 2021, growing to 31.7 million tons in 2022, then increasing to 37.0 million tons in 2023. PTBA Corporate Secretary, Niko Chandra, stated that the achievement of the sales record was supported by coal exports of 20.3 million tons in 2024 or an increase of 30% annually. "The realization of Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) was 22.6 million tons, growing 6% compared to the previous year," said Niko in an official statement in Jakarta.
On the other hand, PTBA's coal sales are dominated by the domestic market with the portion being 53% and exports 47%. Meanwhile, the potential of the main markets has also been maximized, for example exports to India which increased by 32% to 6.4 million tons. In addition, exports to Vietnam, Thailand and Malaysia increased significantly, with sales to Vietnam increasing by 250% to 3 million tons. Exports to Thailand were 1.6 million tons, up 153% annually, and exports to Malaysia jumped 221% to 888.7 thousand tons. The increase in PTBA coal sales was also supported by the realization of production of 43.3 million tons and coal transportation of 38.2 million tons throughout 2024. This coal production and transportation achievement is also the highest record. Niko expressed that by increasingly brilliant operational performance, Bukit Asam is ready to provide Non-Stop Energy to realize energy self-sufficiency which is included in Asta Cita, which is currently the focus of the government. For information, for 2025, PTBA has targeted coal production of 50 million tons, accompanied by sales of 50.1 million tons, and transportation of 43.2 million tons.
