The presence of the Daya Anagata Nusantara Investment Management Agency (Danantara) is said to create opportunities for achieving economic growth of 8%, by attracting foreign direct investment to Indonesia. Following the recent revision of the State-Owned Enterprise (BUMN) Law, according to BUMN observer Toto Pranoto from the University of Indonesia, the presence of Danantara is expected to encourage better management of BUMN companies, increase value creation and make its performance equal to that of Temasek or SASAC. Toto stated that Danantara does not eliminate the role of the Ministry of BUMN. Instead, Danantara will serve as an executor, with the Ministry of BUMN functioning as a supervisory role.
Danantara's authority extends to all BUMN corporate actions, up to the appointment of the board of directors and board of commissioners. If the government objects, the Ministry of BUMN reserves the right to exercise one valley of series A shares to exercise a veto. Danantara's role is considered strategic, namely as an investment management and BUMN management entity. Danantara will have two holdings under its management: the Operational BUMN Holding and the Investment BUMN Holding. The operational BUMN holding is responsible for optimising the BUMN management function to increase value creation, while the Holding BUMN Investment is tasked with carrying out the mandate to enable Danantara to play a strategic role in the investment process, contributing to the development of key sectors identified by the government as priorities, including energy and food security. Danantara has a strong reputation in terms of assets and authorities willing to share risks in the project. One strategy to attract foreign investment is to invite global investors to contribute to a project proposal, such as the construction of a new oil refinery.
