The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) has set a coal production target of 735 million tons for 2025. The Director General of Mineral and Coal at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM), Tri Winarno, in the 2024 ESDM Performance Achievement Press Conference, stated that from the coal production target, approximately 230 million tons will be allocated for domestic needs. This means that domestic coal demand will account for about 30.3% of the total coal production.
The 2025 target aligns with the government's strategy to balance production with environmental considerations and market demand. Additionally, the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) for coal in 2025 is set at 239.7 million tons, a 24.36% increase from the previous year's target of 181.3 million tons. The government remains optimistic about the coal industry's prospects, emphasizing the importance of sustainable practices and the development of downstream industries to enhance value addition.
