The rise in global coffee bean prices presents a great opportunity for Indonesian exporters, with hopes that prices will remain high when the harvest season begins in mid-2025. As of February 3, 2024, Arabica coffee prices reached USD 3.79 per pound, up 99.73% YoY, driven by limited global supply and uncertainty about Brazil's harvest, which has been impacted by adverse weather. Despite improved weather in Brazil by October, the country’s production is expected to drop by 4.4% in 2025/2026.
However, Indonesian coffee producers have not yet felt the benefits of high prices, as the harvest season won't start until April 2025. AEKI remains confident that exports will grow due to normal rainfall in 2024, leading to a more fruitful harvest. Export growth is expected for both traditional markets like the US and Japan, and new markets. Data from BPS shows that the value of unroasted Arabica coffee exports surged 40.40% YoY to USD 463.75 million, while Robusta coffee exports grew 90.35% YoY, reaching USD 977.88 million.
