China Buys Up Maluku Exports Throughout 2024

From January to December 2024, China dominated as the primary destination for Maluku's exports, accounting for approximately 73.55% of the total exports, as stated by Maritje Pattiwaellapia, the Head of the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Maluku Province, in Ambon on Monday, February 3, 2025. She further explained that Maluku's exports to ASEAN countries amounted to USD 9.06 million, reflecting an increase of about 25.82% compared to the same period in 2023, which was USD 7.20 million. However, Maluku's exports to other Asian regions saw a decline of approximately 21.63%, with notable drops in exports to South Korea (-99.67%), Japan (-37.28%), China (-8.63%), and India (-64.43%). The decline in exports to non-Asian countries also stood at about 28.13%.


In December 2024, Maluku's exports to ASEAN countries dropped significantly by 92.04%, amounting to just USD 0.31 million compared to November 2024. These exports were directed to Singapore, Malaysia, and Vietnam. Meanwhile, exports to other Asian countries surged by 82.45%, totaling USD 9.86 million, with Hong Kong accounting for USD 0.46 million, Japan for USD 0.29 million, and China for USD 9.11 million. Additionally, Maluku's exports expanded beyond Asia to the United States, where it exported frozen seaweed and other algae worth USD 0.14 million.
