PT Pertamina International Shipping (PIS) has entered into a collaboration with the International Maritime Employers Council (IMEC) with an objective to improve the quality of Indonesian seafarers' resources. This initiative is a key step in building stronger relationships with international stakeholders and enables PIS to continue to excel in the face of developments. IMEC is an international organisation representing the interests of maritime employers. Its members include ship owners, operators and ship management companies worldwide. IMEC plays a pivotal role in addressing challenges related to labour and ship crew, promoting best practices, developing capabilities, and formulating policies that impact the maritime sector. IMEC cooperates with the International Labour Organization and the International Maritime Organization to promote fair and sustainable working practices in the shipping sector.
PIS's membership of IMEC reaffirms the company's commitment to meet international standards and contribute to global discussions related to maritime labour, operational sustainability, and innovation. PIS and IMEC have held initial discussions on the digitalisation of crew management, training standards, and environmental sustainability, and have committed to reducing the maritime industry's carbon footprint and improving global shipping practices. Seafarers' capabilities are enhanced by optimising a modern and eco-friendly fleet of vessels, allowing them to hone their competencies on a global level. As a result, the company's business network is expanding to international markets. The PIS vessel fleet can sail on 65 international routes, improving logistics efficiency and allowing Indonesian seafarers to demonstrate their capabilities in line with international standards. As the world's top five seafarer supply, Indonesia needs to maximise its potential, supported by international business expansion, opening new routes, and refurbishing vessels. In addition, PIS collaborates with maritime education and training institutions that comply with international standards for Indonesian seafarers to be ready to compete in the global maritime industry.
