First Voyage to Djibouti at IPC Container Terminal, Services to the African Continent

Starting in 2025, for the first time IPC Container Terminal/IPC TPK serves shipping from Jakarta to Djibouti. This service was opened by Marsa Ocean Shipping LLC called ARX Service with the MV Marsa Ivy carrier ship with a capacity of 1,212 TEUs. This new service marks the Direct Service service to the African continent. Pramestie Wulandary, Corporate Secretary of IPC TPK, stated that she was very enthusiastic about being trusted to serve the new service launched by Marsa Ocean Shipping LLC. Appreciation for the shipping company's innovative steps in encouraging trade connectivity by opening new routes to various continents. "From the terminal side, we ensure the readiness of human resources and loading and unloading equipment so that services can be carried out efficiently," said Pramestie. MV Marsa Ivy has an LOA of 167 meters, Beam 25 meters and Draught 7.1 meters with the route Surabaya - Jakarta - Belawan - Djibouti - Jeddah. The Panama-flagged ship docked at Terminal Operations 3 IPC TPK on Saturday, January 25th, 2025.


Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) processed by Indonesia Eximbank, Indonesia's exports to Africa have experienced stable growth with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of around 9.47% in the last five years. The five main destination countries for Indonesia's exports in Africa include Egypt (37%), Cameroon (7.3%), Djibouti (7%), South Africa (6.1%), and Nigeria (5.5%). This shows that African countries are export destinations that have very large business opportunities. With the presence of services The new service encourages export and import opportunities from Indonesia to Djibouti and Jeddah and opens connectivity to ports in the Middle East such as Sokhna, Aqaba and Port Sudan. Pramestie expressed that  this new service can encourage the growth of Indonesian exports and imports with countries in Africa which is in line with the Ministry of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia in encouraging cooperation with African countries such as Djibouti, Uganda, Somalia & Zanzibar.
