Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia Supports the Export Upgrade of Gayo Coffee in Italy through Business Matching in "International Gayo Arabica Coffee Week"

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia participated in the series "International Gayo Arabica Coffee Celebration Week" on 17 – 25 September 2020 organized by the Ministry of Trade, Ministry of Law and Human Rights in collaboration with the Gayo Coffee Patron Society (MPKG) and ARISE Plus Indonesia. The series of activities began with "Webinar on Market Linkage of Traceable Protected Geography Indication (PGI) Gayo Arabica Coffee to the EU Market" (17/09) followed by "coffee tasting" of Gayo Arabica Coffee which invites the participation of all representatives of the Republic of Indonesia in Europe, including the Embassy of Rome.

"Webinar on Market Linkage of Traceable Protected Geography Indication (PGI)" was attended by 2 participants from Italy, namely Mr. Marco Welzel of "SICAF Srl" who is a coffee importer and Mr. Massimo Battaglia of the "Academy of Coffee La Marzocco" who wanted to get information about Indonesian coffee. The webinar aims to inform the market opportunities of gayo arabica coffee protected geography indication (PGI) which has been recognized by the European Union since 2017.
In his speech at the "coffee tasting and toasting" event of Gayo Arabica Coffee (21/09), The Minister of Trade of the Republic of Indonesia, Agus Suparmanto stressed the importance of support and cooperation of all parties in encouraging the increase in coffee exports, especially gayo arabica coffee based on geographical indications (IG). On the same occasion the Eu Ambassador to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, H.E Vincent Piket, said that PGI has an important role in economic and cultural aspects because it helps create added value for local communities through products that are firmly rooted in tradition, culture, and geography.

Deputy Chief Representative (Wakeppri) of the Embassy of Rome, J.S. George Lantu participated in the coffee tasting event to provide support for the implementation of coffee week. "Italy is the second largest importer of raw green bean beans in the European Union region, so the opportunity to increase Indonesia's coffee exports to Italy is very open," said Wakeppri KBRI Roma.
