PT. Batam Timah Sinergi (BTS) is investing in the construction of a downstream factory with a total value of more than IDR 1 trillion. This factory will process tin metal into various derivative products with added value. The groundbreaking of the factory construction in Batam on 24th January 2025 marks Batam's progress in developing the downstream sector of the mining industry. Supported by PT. Prima Dredge Teams, this company will utilize land with an area of around 6 hectares in Sagulung District - Batam City to produce Tin Chemical products. A number of products that will be produced include Tetrachloride, Dimethyl Tin Dichloride (DMT), and Methyl Tin Mercaptide (MTM). The total production capacity of this factory is estimated to reach 16,000 metric tons per year, at the same time naming it as the second largest producer in the world after China.
The company's management chose Bandar Dunia Madani as the factory location in Batam because it offers a number of advantages, ranging from adequate infrastructure, stable availability of electrical energy, and quality workers. The status as a free trade zone (FTZ) certainly makes it easier for production results to be exported to various countries. Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/ Deputy Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) of the Republic of Indonesia, Todotua Pasaribu, ensured the government's commitment to encouraging the downstreaming of various strategic mineral commodities in Indonesia, including Batam. According to him, Batam has a strategic position because it is close to the Straits of Malacca and Singapore, making it an ideal location for investment. The technological advantages applied in this factory lie in the automation system that will ensure efficiency and consistency of product quality. Currently, PT BTS has signed a Letter of Intent with a number of customers who are willing to buy 93% of PT BTS's monthly production. The demand came from various countries such as China, India, the United States, Vietnam, Thailand, and several countries in Europe. The factory is scheduled to start operating in mid-2026 to strengthen Indonesia's position in the universal tin downstream industry.
