Ministry of Trade Targets 2025 Exports to Grow 7.1%, Involving SMEs

The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) targets a 7.1% export growth rate by 2025, as stated by the Director General of National Export Development, Fajarini Puntodewi. Speaking at the "UMKM Indonesia Goes to Europe" event at the Institut Français Indonesia in Jakarta on Tuesday (January 21, 2025), Fajarini explained that this target aligns with the Indonesian government's goal of 8% economic growth, as set by President Prabowo Subianto. To support the country's economic growth, the Ministry has calculated the necessary export growth, aiming for a 7.1% increase over the next five years.

Kemendag currently runs three main programs. Two of these focus on securing the domestic market and expanding export markets. Fajarini emphasized that expanding export markets is critical and will be pursued through trade agreement negotiations, which aim to eliminate tariffs on Indonesian products, enhancing their competitiveness. Another key initiative is supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (UMKM) to enter export markets, under the "UMKM Bisa Ekspor" program. This includes developing exportable products, building export capacity, and expanding access to international markets. Kemendag has also identified 173 trade exhibitions, both domestic and international, to help UMKM showcase their products and engage in business matching opportunities.
