The National Council of Special Economic Zones (KEK) said that Indonesia needs an investment of IDR 13 trillion in the next five years to achieve economic growth of 8%, in accordance with President Prabowo Subianto's target. For this year, the National Council of KEK noted that the investment target set by Prabowo was IDR 1.9 trillion. Secretary of the Coordinating Ministry (Sesmenko) for Economic Affairs and Chair of the National Council of KEK Implementation Team, Susiwijono Moegiarso, said at the National Council of KEK that KEK plays an important role in achieving Indonesia's economic growth target. To achieve the economic target of 8%, we need an investment of up to IDR 13,032 trillion in the next five years. The role of KEK is very important towards achieving this growth target. During 2024, the National Council recorded investment in SEZs of IDR 90.1 trillion or 115% of the target. Meanwhile, the absorption of labor from SEZs was recorded at 47,747 people or 122% of the target. Cumulatively, SEZs have recorded investment achievements of IDR 263.4 trillion with the absorption of 160,874 workers and involving 403 business actors.
In 2025, the President is targeting a high investment IDR 1,905 trillion. Based on the progress report by the SEZ Development and Management Business Entity (BUPP), there are seven SEZs that have realized investment and labor targets of more than 100% last year. The seven areas are Sei Mangkei SEZ , Singhasari SEZ, Kendal SEZ, Nongsa SEZ, Lido SEZ, Sanur SEZ, and Kura Kura Bali SEZ. The government has established 24 Special Economic Zones spread throughout Indonesia. These areas are specifically for the industrial, tourism, digital, and other service sectors. The government is targeting the establishment of five additional SEZ by 2025. Additionally, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto had said that there were several SEZ that faced challenges due to the lack of investment realization. Its areas such as Tanjung Kelayang, Morotai SEZ, and also SEZs in Aceh.
