The Deputy Minister of National Development Planning/Deputy Head of the National Development Planning Agency (PPN/Bappenas), Febrian Alphyanto Ruddyard, projects that the economic growth in Eastern Indonesia will reach 8.8% by 2029. "Economic growth in Western Indonesia is projected at 7.7%, while Eastern Indonesia will grow at 8.8% in 2029," Febrian said during a session at the Indonesia Pavilion at the 2025 World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, on Tuesday.
According to official data from the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM, this projection is closely tied to Indonesia's goal of achieving an overall economic growth rate of 8% by 2029. "The National Medium-Term Development Plan 2025-2029 outlines Indonesia’s development targets. Our main goal is to reach 8% economic growth by 2029," he said. The government has formulated a strategy, known as the "8 strategies plus 1 step," which includes boosting agricultural productivity to achieve food self-sufficiency through modernization, advancing industrial downstreaming, and developing the blue and green economies. This strategy also involves enhancing tourism and the creative economy, developing special economic zones in both urban and rural areas, driving digital transformation, increasing investments, and implementing productive government spending such as free nutritious meals and the construction of 3 million houses. These strategies are supported by a key step: simplifying regulations and implementing fiscal and monetary policies that promote economic growth. "Our journey toward Indonesia Golden 2045 requires collaboration, bold innovation, and strategic partnerships," Febrian added. He hopes that through the WEF 2025, Indonesia can establish collaborations with other countries and companies to achieve these ambitious targets.
