The Indonesian Ministry of Trade is committed to boosting exports of Indonesian products to South Korea. One of the key efforts is supporting business meetings and matchmaking events between entrepreneurs from both countries. These meetings align with the Ministry’s priority programs, including expanding export markets and promoting the "UMKM BISA Ekspor" initiative, which encourages innovation and adaptation among micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). This was stated by Fajarini Puntodewi, Director-General of National Export Development at the Ministry, during the ASEAN-Korea Trade and Investment Facilities Mission to Indonesia in Jakarta on Monday, January 20, 2025.
Puntodewi highlighted that the business forum and matchmaking sessions would support the Ministry’s efforts to expand export markets and strengthen the UMKM BISA Ekspor program. Around 60 Indonesian entrepreneurs and 11 South Korean businesses participated, with presentations from the Ministry, Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), and Indonesian business representatives such as PT Indorasa Utama. South Korea, as one of Indonesia's key economic partners in East Asia, has seen significant trade and investment growth over the years, with total trade reaching USD 18.37 billion in January–November 2024. Puntodewi emphasized that sustaining this strong partnership will require continuous efforts to promote key export products like coal, palm oil, chemical products, and timber, alongside potential exports such as rubber, wood pulp, animal feed, and plastics.
