East Java has recorded the highest volume of fisheries exports in the country in 2024. According to data from the East Java Marine and Fisheries Office, the total volume of fisheries exports from the province reached 360,385.20 tons in 2024. Isa Anshori, Head of the East Java Marine and Fisheries Office, emphasized that this achievement has made a significant contribution to the national economy. “The fisheries sector in East Java has continued to improve. In 2024, our fisheries exports topped the national rankings with 360,385.20 tons, valued at USD 2.05 billion,” he stated on Monday, January 20, 2025.
The key export commodities from East Java include shrimp, seaweed, and tuna. In 2024, East Java’s shrimp exports reached 68,240 tons, seaweed exports totaled 66,098 tons, and tuna exports amounted to 61,425 tons. Isa highlighted that this success proves the province's fisheries sector can compete globally, while also contributing to the welfare of coastal communities and fisheries entrepreneurs in East Java. After East Java, DKI Jakarta ranked second with 281,353.59 tons of exports, followed by South Sulawesi with 179,271.71 tons, West Java with 110,004.14 tons, and North Sumatra with 101,383.96 tons. Isa added, “We continue to strive to improve the productivity of both capture fisheries and aquaculture.” In 2024, East Java’s aquaculture production reached 1,369,571.38 tons, making it the third-highest contributor nationally, behind South Sulawesi and East Nusa Tenggara. Key aquaculture commodities from East Java include seaweed (746,359.43 tons), catfish (159,665.67 tons), and milkfish (154,912.72 tons).
