Ministry of Industry: Establishment of BPDP supports development of cocoa industry

The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) stated that the initiation of the establishment of the Plantation Fund Management Agency (BPDP) will directly support the development of sustainable upstream-downstream cocoa industry. According to Director General of Agro Industry of the Ministry of Industry Putu Juli Ardika, the existence of this institution will optimize the opportunities that Indonesia has in advancing one of the sub-sectors of food and beverage. Kemenperin noted that in 2023 the price of cocoa beans was still at USD 3,280 per ton and continued to fluctuate throughout last year, with the highest value in December 2024 reaching USD 10,556 per ton.

Furthermore, this Ministry together with BPDP has also initiated a human resource (HR) competency development program to strengthen the supply chain of raw materials for the cocoa sector through Cocoa Doctor. This program provided coaching to more than 3,700 Training of Trainers (ToT) farmer partners. The Cocoa industry is experiencing investment growth. This can be seen from the growth of 20 cocoa processing industry producers that produce cocoa butter, cocoa liquor, cocoa powder, and cocoa cakes. This industry has made Indonesia the 4th largest exporter of processed cocoa products in the world, with main market shares including India, the United States, the European Union, China, and Malaysia. The Ministry of Industry noted that in 2023, the export value of these processed products reached more than USD 1.2 billion and contributed to a global market share of 3.92 %.
