Thailand and Hong Kong have become the main destination countries for Indonesia’s durian exports. In total, Indonesia exported 87.2 tons of durian in December 2024, with a value of USD 52,600. Acting Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti, stated that throughout 2024, the total weight of Indonesia's durian exports reached 600 tons, worth USD 1.8 million. "So, for the entire year of 2024, we exported 600 tons of durian, valued at USD 1.8 million, with Thailand and Hong Kong as the primary destination countries," Amalia said during a press conference on Wednesday (15/1/2025).
On the other hand, Indonesia still imports durian, although the volume is smaller than what is exported. In December 2024, durian imports amounted to 29.8 tons, worth USD 246,700, primarily from Malaysia. From January to December 2024, Indonesia imported 459.3 tons of durian, valued at USD 3.6 million, mostly from Malaysia and Thailand. Amalia emphasized that, in terms of volume, Indonesia’s durian exports remain higher than imports. This issue gained attention recently due to Vietnam’s success as a leading durian exporter, with exports reaching USD 3.3 billion in 2024, driven by soaring demand from China.
