Rising by 5.3 %, Indonesia's Imports in 2024 Will Reach USD 233.66 Billion

The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that Indonesia's import value for 2024 will reach USD 233.66 billion, equivalent to IDR 3,808.65 trillion based on an exchange rate of IDR 16,300 per USD. Acting Head of BPS Amalia Adininggar Widyasanti stated that this represents a 5.31% increase, or an additional USD 11.77 billion, compared to the previous year's value of USD 221.89 billion. The rise in imports during this period is attributed to both oil and gas (migas) and non-oil and gas imports. Specifically, oil and gas imports increased by 1.24% to USD 36.28 billion, while non-oil and gas imports grew by 6.09% to USD 197.38 billion. "Throughout 2024, Indonesia's total imports reached USD 233.66 billion, marking a 5.31% increase compared to last year," she said during a press conference on Monday (15/1/2025).

Widyasanti further revealed that the increase in imports in 2024 was primarily driven by raw materials and auxiliary goods, which contributed 3.84% of the overall increase. The value of raw material imports in 2024 reached USD 169.68 billion, up 5.29% from USD 161.16 billion in 2023. Meanwhile, capital goods imports were valued at USD 41.28 billion, growing by 5.34% from the previous year's USD 39.18 billion. Consumer goods imports totaled USD 22.70 billion, rising by 5.37% from USD 21.55 billion the previous year. The most imported commodities in Indonesia in 2024 were from the HS 84 category, which includes mechanical machinery and parts, accounting for 16.98% of total non-oil and gas imports. The value of machinery imports reached USD 33.51 billion, an increase of 4.23% from 2023. China was the main supplier, contributing 51.01% of total machinery imports, followed by Japan (9%) and Singapore (5.30%). The commodities with the highest increase in import value included precious metals and gemstones (HS 71), which made up 2.42% of non-oil and gas imports. "Other commodities that saw an increase in import value included mechanical machinery and electrical equipment," she concluded.
