The Garut Regency Government, West Java, is targeting the addition of 371 hectares of productive food land specifically for corn and rice commodities by 2025 in order to strengthen food security. Head of the Food Crops, Horticulture and Plantation Facilities Division at the Garut Regency Agriculture Service (Dispertan), Ardhy Firdian expressed that the target area that must be achieved for dry land rice is 307 hectares, and corn is 64 hectares. The land area in Garut Regency was recorded at around 307,407 hectares, of which around 190,000 hectares were productive land such as rice fields or wetlands and dry land agriculture. Data on land for corn commodities is in Selaawi, Cikelet and Cisompet Districts, then for rice commodities temporarily in Bungbulang District. Garut Agriculture Service (Dispertan) is still looking for prospective farmers and prospective locations (CPCL), for corn the location is in Selaawi, Cikelet, and Cisompet, for rice, the one that has arrived is from Bungbulang District.

Garut Dispertan will utilize land between perennial plants that can be planted, or on perennial plant land that is still in the non-productive plant phase (TBM). The context is not about opening up land, but how to utilize land that has not been planted with rice or corn to be planted. The food land that has met the requirements will then be managed by farmers according to standards such as maintaining the availability of water so that it remains normal to irrigate the land so that it can be productive. Water availability is the main issue and must be maintained so that farmers can process land to be productive and produce food products. Then the regional government will provide rice seeds equipped with plant medicine needs, while for corn only seeds will be provided. Facilities for dry land rice are in the form of seeds, pesticides and herbicides, while for corn they are only in the form of seeds.
