The Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) noted that domestic coal production reached 831.05 million tons throughout 2024. Citing data from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources' Minerba One Data Indonesia (MODI), the realization has reached 117.05% of the 2024 production target of 710 million tons. In 2024, production realization will be 815.05 million tons. In more detail, of the total black gold production, domestic absorption was recorded at 378.95 million tons. The realization for exports was 434.11 million tons and the realization for domestic market obligation (DMO) reached 209.93 million tons. Coal sales throughout 2024 reached 813.06 million tons with realization reaching 114.52% of the target last year.
This excess coal production is in line with the reality that this commodity still dominates the energy mix in Indonesia. Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung revealed that the energy mix was dominated by coal energy sources , reaching 39.48% in semester I/2024. In addition, oil utilization reached 29.9% in the national energy mix, while gas still reached 16.69%. Meanwhile, EBT utilization has only reached 13.93%.
