Japan Disburses IDR 8.57 Trillion Loan for Patimban Port Development

The Japanese government through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA ) has officially provided a loan to Indonesia for the Patimban Port Development Project Phase III worth 83.408 billion yen or around IDR 8.57 trillion. JICA's official stated that the provision of funds was approved after JICA signed the agreement document for the Japanese ODA Soft Loan for the Patimban Development Project (III). JICA expressed that the loan for the development of Patimban Port was given with an interest of 0.3% per year for the project and 0.2% per year for consultant work. The Patimban Port Advanced Development Project aims to strengthen the logistics function in the metropolitan area by building new ports, such as container terminals, vehicle terminals, etc., in Patimban, in the eastern part of the Jakarta metropolitan area. Such development can contribute to further economic growth by improving the investment environment in Indonesia. The project implements the Special Terms for Economic Partnership or STEP, which is designed to increase the visibility of Japanese assistance through the transfer of Japanese technology and expertise to partner countries.

This loan will be provided for the project work divided into several parts, namely phase 1-1 for earlier and then phase 1-2. Phase 1-1 is the construction of a 10-hectare container terminal and a 22.4-hectare vehicle terminal, as well as construction of a 1 km long bridge. Then, phase 1-2 consists of the construction of a 64-hectare container terminal and a vehicle terminal (13.7 hectares), as well as dredging the port channel. The loan is also provided for consulting services such as detailed design, tender assistance, construction supervision, and others. Then, the Directorate General of Highways of the Ministry of Public Works will supervise the construction work for the access road under the control of the Directorate General of Sea Transportation. Previously, in 2017 and 2022, the Indonesian Government and JICA had signed a two phase loan. With this third phase loan, the total amount is estimated to reach around 272.5 billion Japanese yen.
