The Sumbawa Regency Agriculture Service (Distan) has been given a target by the government of 1,620 hectares for corn plants. Later, this will be assisted by the National Police in making the corn planting movement a success. Wirawan Margana Head of Agricultural Facilities at the Sumbawa Regency Agriculture Service expressed that to achieve this target, we are currently conducting an inventory of the locations that will be used. Because the requirement is not land that has been planted with corn. The main requirement for the development of the corn commodity must be on new or non-regular land. This is done because regular land is included in the action plan to maintain national food security. The location for the corn plant must be included in the agricultural authority area, not in protected areas and mountain slopes that are not required.
Based on the results of the inventory up to now, the amount of land area suitable to support the program is only less than 50 %of the 1,620 hectares needed. The Agriculture Service also ensures that it will continue to look for land according to the needs to maintain national food security. The results of our inventory are currently still less than 50 % of the total needs. But the Agriculture Service will continue to try to find other locations. He also detailed that for the time being the location of the corn plants is already in Moyo Hilir sub-district, around 116 hectares, in Lape sub-district around 82 hectares. In Labangka sub-district there are 200 hectares and several other sub-districts each around 20 to 50 hectares. The Agriculture Service will continue to make maximum efforts to find a suitable location for the corn plants so that what the government wants can be successful and run well.
