President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto, and Japan’s Prime Minister, Ishiba Shigeru, have agreed to strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries across key sectors. This agreement was reached during a bilateral meeting at the Presidential Palace in Bogor, West Java, on Saturday, January 11, 2025. President Prabowo emphasized that Prime Minister Ishiba’s visit highlights the strong commitment of both nations to further deepen their longstanding bilateral relations. One of the primary focuses of the meeting was enhancing cooperation in the economy and energy sectors. Prime Minister Ishiba expressed Japan's readiness to support Indonesia in securing a stable energy supply, particularly through renewable energy projects like geothermal power plants (PLTP), hydrogen, and ammonia.
In addition to energy collaboration, Japan also pledged support for Indonesia’s industrialization, particularly in the downstream processing of natural resources. President Prabowo invited Japan to participate in efforts aimed at adding value to Indonesia’s products before export. In the defense sector, both leaders agreed to establish a forum for maritime security discussions. Prime Minister Ishiba confirmed that Japan would provide high-speed patrol boats to Indonesia through the first Official Security Assistance (OSA) agreement. Both leaders also emphasized the importance of maintaining regional stability in the Indo-Pacific amidst global geopolitical tensions. President Prabowo reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to fostering good relations with all countries and economic blocs to reduce tensions between major powers.
