The Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Sudaryono, is urging the Indonesian public to consider cultivating swallow nests (SBW) as a lucrative economic opportunity for families and a way to strengthen national exports. He emphasized that Indonesia supplies 60% of the world’s swallow nest supply, making it a highly promising industry. The export value of these nests is nearly IDR 10 trillion per year, and the government is committed to supporting swallow farmers by simplifying regulations and providing the necessary resources for expansion. Sudaryono also reiterated that the government aims to boost export volumes and reduce imports as part of the President’s vision for food self-sufficiency and a stronger export economy.
Sudaryono further expressed optimism that Indonesia could increase its global market share of swallow nest exports, targeting a contribution of 63 to 65%. With prices reaching tens of millions per kilogram, cultivating swallow nests can generate substantial income for farmers, boosting local economies. The Ministry of Agriculture is also encouraging the downstream processing of swallow nests to further contribute to the country's GDP. Indonesia remains the leading global supplier of swallow nests, with China being the largest importer, purchasing 500 tons of Indonesia’s annual export of 1,800 tons.
