The West Pasaman Regency Government, West Sumatra, is targeting fish production in 2025 to reach 107,528 tons. The target includes 5,964 tons of farmed fish and 101,564 tons of captured fish. Head of the West Pasaman Fisheries Service, Zulfi Agus expresses that the target was set to increase fishermen's income and encourage growth in the fisheries sector. To achieve this target, the West Pasaman Fisheries Service has prepared a number of strategies, including: fish Seed Distribution by distributing fish seeds through the Fish Seed Center (BBI) to farmers; socialization and Counseling by providing training to farmers regarding good and efficient fish farming techniques; encouragement for business Actors; motivating fisheries business actors to increase production capacity, both in the capture and cultivation sectors; fuel recommendations by facilitating fishermen in obtaining fuel oil (BBM) for fishing vessels; facilities and Infrastructure Assistance by providing facilities for the development of fisheries businesses, including fishing equipment and cultivation support; synergy with the Province and Center by collaborating with the provincial and central governments to support efforts to increase fisheries production.
The majority of the catches of West Pasaman fishermen include various types of fish with high economic value, such as: tongkol, tenggiri, red snapper, kembung, selar, anchovies, grouper, layur, bawal, kuwe, skipjack, white shrimp and crab. West Pasaman fishery products are no less competitive than other fish producing areas in Indonesia. With support from all parties, the government is optimistic that the target of fish production of 107,528 tons can be achieved by the end of 2025. Support from the government, business actors, and the community is very important to realize this target while improving the welfare of fishermen and fish farmers in West Pasaman.
