Special Economic Zones (KEK) to Receive IDR 82.6 Trillion in Investments in 2024

The development of Special Economic Zones (KEK) in Indonesia is expected to attract a total investment of IDR 82.6 trillion in 2024. According to the National KEK Council, employment absorption during this period reached 42,930 people. Rizal Edwin Manansang, the Acting Secretary-General of the National KEK Council, emphasized that with such investment achievements, there is a challenge to further increase contributions and development. "This is essential to strengthen national economic growth, which is projected to reach 8%," he stated in an official announcement on January 7, 2024.


Cumulatively, from 2012 to 2024, KEK has attracted investments totaling IDR 256.7 trillion, creating 156,208 jobs and involving 394 business players. Edwin noted that KEK has become a vital instrument for attracting investment and driving Indonesia's economic activities. Currently, there are 24 KEK in various sectors, including manufacturing, digital economy, healthcare, education, and maintenance, repair, and overhaul for aircraft. Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, added that KEK has been a major growth driver in countries like China, Vietnam, and other ASEAN nations, and it is time for Indonesia’s KEK to fully capitalize on these opportunities.
