Deputy Minister of Agriculture (Wamentan), Sudaryono emphasized that investment in the cattle farming sector will involve local farmers. This is in line with the government's efforts to improve the welfare of farmers and the resilience of domestic meat supplies. He expresses that the investment prioritizes the progress of Indonesian farmers. From licensing to product absorption. The government had made regulations to facilitate investment in the livestock sector for local and foreign entrepreneurs. One important step is to bring in cattle from Brazil, which is suitable for Indonesia's climate.
Brazil has a large cattle population, around 200 thousand head, suitable for Indonesia's tropical conditions. Brazil is also known to be free from Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD), so cattle imports are guaranteed to be safe. Brazil is a country that is ready to export healthy cattle without worrying about the spread of FMD. He said that cattle imports are part of the government's steps to meet domestic meat needs. The government also supports the free nutritious meal program which requires a large-scale supply of raw materials. One of them is fulfilled by increasing domestic cattle production. With collaboration between the government, local farmers, and private investment, the livestock sector is expected to grow rapidly. The Deputy Minister of Agriculture is optimistic that this step will improve the welfare of farmers and national food security.
