The Indonesian Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming (BKPM) has set an ambitious target of IDR 13,528 trillion in investments by 2029, emphasizing collaboration between central and regional governments and private sectors. Investment Minister Rosan Perkasa Roeslani highlighted this goal as essential to achieving 8% economic growth by 2029, requiring an average annual investment growth rate of 26.75%. As of September 2024, Indonesia has reached 76.45% of its 2024 investment target of IDR 1,650 trillion, or approximately IDR 1,261.43 trillion, with over 50% of contributions from outside Java. To drive progress, BKPM held a National Investment Coordination Meeting under the theme “Accelerating Downstreaming and Sustainable Investment Toward Indonesia Gold 2045.” The event emphasized the strategic roadmap that includes 28 key commodities across sectors like minerals, oil, and forestry, targeting USD 618.8 billion in investments by 2040, GDP growth of USD 235.9 billion, and the creation of 3 million jobs.
Coordinating Economic Minister Airlangga Hartarto reinforced the need for sustainable downstreaming to mitigate economic vulnerabilities tied to raw commodity dependency. He stressed the significance of manufacturing, which contributes nearly 20% to GDP, as a cornerstone for economic transformation. Over 1,000 participants from various regions and sectors convened to strategize on enhancing regional commodity potential, ensuring legal certainty, and harmonizing central-regional regulations to boost investor confidence. The collaborative efforts, backed by Presidential Regulation No. 184/2024, aim to elevate Indonesia's position in global supply chains while ensuring economic independence. The roadmap reflects Indonesia’s determination to shift from exporting raw materials to becoming a key player in value-added industries, bringing the nation closer to its Indonesia Gold 2045 vision.
