The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) reported that nickel was a key commodity supporting Indonesia's non-oil and gas export performance in November 2024. Acting Head of BPS, Amalia Adininggar Widyawanti, stated that the value of non-oil and gas exports reached USD 22.69 billion in November 2024, marking a 1.67% decrease from the previous month’s USD 23.08 billion. This decline was mainly due to a drop in exports of metal ores, ash slag, animal/vegetable oils, and copper products. Despite this, BPS highlighted that the export value for November 2024 was still higher than the same period last year, which stood at USD 20.71 billion. Amalia explained that the annual growth of 9.41% in exports was largely driven by increased shipments of nickel and its derivatives (HS75). "The increase in exports was mainly driven by nickel and its related products," she noted during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, December 16, 2024.
In addition to nickel, other significant contributors to non-oil and gas exports in November 2024 included machinery and mechanical equipment, as well as electrical machinery and accessories. Amalia also shared that the largest export destination for non-oil and gas products was China, with exports valued at USD 6.24 billion, followed by the United States at USD 2.34 billion and India at USD 1.58 billion. Together, these three countries accounted for 44.82% of Indonesia’s total non-oil and gas exports. Exports to ASEAN and the European Union (27 countries) were valued at USD 4.09 billion and USD 1.37 billion, respectively. Overall, Indonesia’s total exports in November 2024 reached USD 24.01 billion, reflecting a 1.70% decline compared to October 2024. However, this figure showed a 9.14% increase compared to November 2023. Meanwhile, oil and gas exports totaled USD 1.31 billion, a 2.1% decline compared to October 2024.
