West Sumatra (Sumbar) has achieved a significant milestone in the agricultural sector by resuming mangosteen exports to China. The initial shipment, after halting since March 2024, took place on Monday, 9 December, via Minangkabau International Airport, Padang City. Head of the Sumatra Quarantine Center, Ibrahim, emphasized that this export is a positive development for the region’s agriculture. A total of 11.25 tons of mangosteens, valued at IDR 742 million, passed rigorous food safety inspections and were cleared for the international market. The air shipment reflects rising global demand and quality recognition for Indonesian mangosteens, signaling the commodity's growing potential to bolster regional income.
This shipment marks a shift from container-based transport to airfreight, highlighting the increasing demand for West Sumatra’s premium-quality mangosteens. Ibrahim noted that the region's commitment to maintaining export standards not only enhances the international reputation of Sumatra's tropical fruits but also creates economic opportunities for local farmers. The successful resumption of exports is expected to strengthen the regional economy, positioning West Sumatra as a key producer of high-quality tropical fruits in Indonesia and reinforcing its presence in the global market.
