Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, as well as Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, emphasized that achieving an 8% economic growth rate requires a focus on downstreaming and investment. He highlighted that downstreaming, which adds value and fosters domestic industrialization, will be key to Indonesia’s economic development. "Investment will play a very important role," said Rosan during the Indonesia-Europe Investment Summit 2024, held at the Ministry of Investment and Downstreaming/BKPM Office on Monday, December 9, 2024. His ministry is focusing on five to six key commodities from the 28 offered to investors, including minerals and coal, plantations, fisheries, and forestry. These sectors are expected to drive significant economic impact and benefit the Indonesian people.
Rosan also mentioned that his ministry has mapped out potential investors by country to target specific commodities. He stressed the importance of collaboration with the European Union to advance and manage Indonesia's downstream industries. Furthermore, during the summit, Rosan pointed out that Indonesia's renewable energy potential reaches 3,700 gigawatts, sourced from solar, hydro, bioenergy, geothermal, wind, and tidal energy. He invited European nations to collaborate in managing these resources, emphasizing the need for foreign support in terms of funding, technology, and skilled labor. In addition to attracting new investments, Rosan emphasized the importance of retaining existing investors, noting that they have already invested billions of dollars in the country. The government is also working to simplify regulations and align policies between central and regional authorities to create a more investor-friendly environment. As part of efforts to achieve sustainable energy transition, Rosan stressed the necessity of involving international financial institutions and carbon markets.
