The Minister of Trade Prepares a Regulation on Export Exhibition Standards

The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) is currently drafting a Ministerial Regulation (Permendag) on standards for export exhibitions. "Every export exhibition abroad must have a standard, for example, a minimum size requirement," said Minister of Trade Budi Santoso during the National Export Discussion event "UMKM Bisa Ekspor" at the Kemendag office in Jakarta on Friday. This idea arose due to the lack of consistent standards for Indonesian participation in overseas exhibitions, with some being too simple while others were of high quality.

According to Budi, the absence of clear standards can harm Indonesia's image, even if the products being sold are of excellent quality. "We’re not just selling products, but we must also build our image, so when people see it’s from Indonesia, they’ll be more inclined to buy," he explained. Additionally, the Minister highlighted the importance of a well-defined standard operating procedure (SOP) for exhibitions, which should cover location, booth design, representatives tasked with finding buyers, and sales targets. "There should be business matching and trade contracts, so it’s not just an exhibition that doesn’t yield results," Budi added. He hopes the regulation will be completed soon, as Indonesia plans to hold business meetings with foreign trade representatives starting in January 2025.
