Expand Export Markets, Ministry of Trade Intensifies Trade Diplomacy

The Ministry of Trade continues to intensify trade diplomacy to expand export markets through resolving trade negotiations and disputes, as well as active participation in international forums. Indonesia has successfully recorded a trade surplus for 54 consecutive months, a result of efforts to optimize existing trade agreements and actively complete negotiations for new trade deals. This was shared by Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti during the 2024 Conference on Indonesia Foreign Policy (CIFP) C2 session held at Mall Kota Kasablanka in Jakarta on Saturday, November 30. The session focused on the theme *"Indonesian Economic Diplomacy: Strategies for Achieving 8% Growth."*

Regarding trade disputes, Indonesia is currently involved in 33 active cases at the World Trade Organization (WTO), including 4 as a defendant, 4 as a complainant, and 25 as a third party. Despite this, the government remains committed to resolving each dispute. "In the future, Indonesia will continue to play an active role in international trade. One of the steps is implementing a multi-track strategy (multilateral, regional, and bilateral) to boost export value and provide incentives for national economic actors," stated Dyah Roro Esti. She also highlighted the positive economic growth of Indonesia, which is forecast to reach 5-5.1% this year. President Prabowo Subianto has targeted 8% economic growth by 2029, relying on collaboration and hard work across all sectors. Deputy Minister Roro also pointed out that Indonesia's foreign trade performance remains strong, with a trade surplus of USD 24.43 billion from January to October 2024. The Ministry of Trade is focusing on three key areas to meet the 2029 economic growth target: securing domestic markets, expanding export markets, and increasing the contribution of MSMEs to national exports.
