The Indonesian Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) is intensifying efforts to showcase domestic capabilities on the international stage, aiming to expand market access, foster partnerships, and attract investment. In this regard, Kemenperin facilitated the participation of six national wire and cable producers at the Wire and Cable Show Vietnam 2024 held in Hanoi from 20-22 November 2024. These companies include PT Multi Kencana Niagatama, PT Prima Indah Lestari, and PT Supreme Cable Manufacturing & Commerce Tbk, among others. Showcasing a variety of high-quality products, including fiber optic cables and high-voltage connectors, Indonesia seeks to highlight its strong domestic content (TKDN) capabilities. According to the Indonesian Cable Manufacturers Association (Apkabel), local producers can now manufacture all types of optical cables, with a total production capacity reaching 15 million ScKm. The Director of Metal Industries, Rizky Aditya Wijaya, emphasized the strategic role of the cable industry in supporting copper downstreaming initiatives aligned with President Prabowo Subianto’s industrialization agenda.
The event, one of the largest in Vietnam’s wire and cable sector, hosted 132 booths featuring exhibitors from countries such as China, South Korea, and Malaysia. Notably, Vietnamese companies expressed interest in investing in Indonesia, projecting a potential USD 16 million investment to process domestic copper scrap into higher-value products. Apkabel Chairman Noval Jamalullail lauded the support from Kemenperin and Indonesia’s Embassy in Hanoi for facilitating an Indonesian Pavilion at the exhibition. Beyond showcasing products, Indonesian producers secured potential buyers for flame-retardant cables, photovoltaic cables, and fiber optic cables. This participation is expected to enhance the export contribution of Indonesia’s metal industry while integrating local producers into global supply chains. The collaboration also underscores Vietnam’s potential as a promising market, given its 100 million-plus population and robust infrastructure needs.
