The Indonesian government has urged Switzerland to invest in its green, blue, and digital economy sectors through the Indonesia Business Forum Series 2024 held in Zurich on 20 November. Indonesian Ambassador to Switzerland Ngurah Swajaya highlighted that the forum's theme, "Transforming Tomorrow: Indonesia's Potential - Investment Opportunities for Green and Digital Economies," aligns with Indonesia's Astacita vision under President Prabowo Subianto. Ambassador Ngurah emphasized that Indonesia aims to enhance its competitive advantage by optimizing natural resources, promoting sustainable management, and leveraging its carbon trading potential. Despite challenges, Indonesia's economy is projected to grow above 5%, supported by innovation and advancements in green and digital technologies. Switzerland, as a longstanding bilateral partner with over 73 years of ties and a major investor in Indonesia, is seen as pivotal in strengthening Indonesia’s low-carbon technology ecosystem and human resource development through vocational and academic education.
Swiss companies already play a significant role, with over 150 enterprises operating in Indonesia, contributing to USD 1.28 billion in FDI over the last five years, making Switzerland the third-largest European investor. Deputy Minister for Investment and Downstreaming, Nurul Ichwan, emphasized Indonesia’s focus on downstreaming across 28 commodities from eight sectors, creating significant collaboration opportunities. Highlighting Indonesia's robust investment appeal, real investment figures have doubled from USD 721 million in 2018 to USD 1.4 billion in 2023, with projected GDP growth of 6-7% by 2045. Representatives from BRIN and BI London also presented insights into Indonesia’s strategic sectors, including digital infrastructure, renewable energy, and EVs. The forum underscored Indonesia as not only a lucrative market but also a strategic global economic partner. The event reinforced bilateral cooperation for a greener, more inclusive, and sustainable future, as stated by KBRI Bern.
