The Indonesian government, through the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas), targets an economic growth rate of 5.3% for 2025. "In 2025, according to the national development plan and the government's work plan for that year, we are also targeting a 5.3% economic growth rate," said Bappenas Head Rachmat Pambudy during the CORE Economic Outlook 2025 event in Jakarta, as quoted by Media Indonesia on Sunday, November 24, 2024. However, Rachmat emphasized that the government hopes to introduce new strategies and approaches to further boost economic growth, while also keeping inflation in check.
"We want economic growth to also target the lowest economic groups so we can improve their daily living conditions, helping them move from lower middle-class to middle class, and from middle class to upper middle-class," he said. He added that strengthening the middle class would contribute to economic stability.
In the same event, CoRE Executive Director Mohammad Faisal predicted that next year's economic growth would range between 4.8% and 5.0%, citing a forecasted slowdown in household consumption continuing into 2025. "The middle class, which has the largest contribution to consumption, is currently facing difficulties, and without significant policy changes, it will be hard for it to grow in 2025," Faisal said. However, he added that if the government implements policies to support the middle class, economic growth in 2025 could improve. Next year, the government also aims to keep inflation within its target range of 2.5% plus or minus one, while reducing the unemployment rate to between 4.5% and 5.5%, and working towards eliminating extreme poverty.
