Minister of Investment and Downstreaming, Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, presented Indonesia’s investment opportunities in education, renewable energy, and downstreaming during the Indonesia Investment Forum (IIF) 2024 in London, held on November 22. Addressing 150 prominent UK business leaders, Rosan emphasized Indonesia’s economic resilience amid global challenges and the country’s goal to achieve 8% economic growth within five years. Highlighting Indonesia’s vast renewable energy potential of 3,700 gigawatts, including geothermal energy reserves of 23 gigawatts, Rosan invited global collaboration to reduce reliance on fossil fuels. The forum, organized by Indonesia’s Ministry of Investment in partnership with the Indonesian Embassy in London, featured key speakers such as Sir Tony Blair and KADIN Chair Anindya Bakrie.
UK investment in Indonesia reached USD 2.28 billion from 2019 to September 2024, with mining (22%) and agriculture (17%) leading sectors. Most investments occurred outside Java (64%), with Papua and Sumatra among the top destinations. Strategic partnerships between the two nations extend to education, evidenced by UK institutions like Lancaster University in Bandung and King's College London in East Java. Sir Tony Blair praised Indonesia’s pro-business policies under both President Jokowi and President Prabowo. The forum also introduced Indonesia’s strategic investment roadmap for commodities like nickel, seaweed, and palm oil, encouraging UK investors to capitalize on Indonesia’s demographic and market potential.
