The 35th edition of Plastics & Rubber Indonesia 2024, Indonesia’s largest international exhibition for plastics and rubber machinery and material processing, officially opened at JIExpo Kemayoran, Jakarta, on November 20, 2024. The event, themed “Circularity & Sustainability in the Plastics Industry,” highlights cutting-edge technologies in recycling and biodegradable plastics, including innovations derived from natural materials like corn husks and cassava. Meysia Stephannie, Event Director at PT Pamerindo Indonesia, emphasized the exhibition's role in strengthening the national plastics and rubber ecosystem, showcasing technologies that support sustainability, productivity, and competitiveness in the global market. Over 15,000 attendees are expected during the four-day event, featuring interactive programs such as panel discussions and seminars addressing industry trends and challenges.
Government and private sector collaboration was highlighted as crucial for addressing Indonesia’s import reliance, with domestic production meeting only 50–60% of national demand. In Q1 2024, Indonesia’s plastic imports reached USD 233.15 billion, while exports stood at USD 103.47 million. Efforts to increase production capacity and adopt flexible manufacturing strategies aim to reduce this gap and foster industrial growth. Messe Düsseldorf Asia, a global leader in plastics and rubber exhibitions, joined Pamerindo in organizing this year’s event, marking a historic collaboration. International participants, including Austria, Germany, Italy, and Taiwan, showcased innovative solutions like precision plastic processing and injection molding. These contributions are poised to inspire transformation and growth, reaffirming Indonesia's position as a major market in the plastics and rubber industry.
