Indonesia Aims to Downstream 26 Commodities, Prabowo Projects USD 600 Billion Investment Need

President Prabowo Subianto invited global investors to participate in Indonesia’s downstream projects during the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit 2024. He emphasized the country’s ambitious plan to industrialize 26 key commodities, ranging from natural resources to minerals, by establishing domestic processing industries. Prabowo highlighted that this initiative requires substantial capital and advanced technology, urging international collaboration. “We are committed to industrialization by processing our resources domestically. This involves 26 commodities that we aim to fully industrialize,” he stated during his virtual speech on Sunday, 17 November 2024. To achieve this, Indonesia seeks an investment of at least USD 600 billion, equivalent to IDR 9,480 trillion (exchange rate IDR 15,800 per USD). This substantial figure, he said, offers immense opportunities for global investors to tap into Indonesia’s growing economy.

Prabowo assured potential investors of government support, including regulatory clarity and favorable business incentives. “Indonesia is open for more business, and I am committed to protecting all incoming investments, ensuring an advantageous economic environment, and fostering global partnerships for shared prosperity,” he affirmed. Key sectors highlighted include the maritime and fisheries industries, where 75% of Indonesia’s territory is covered by water, providing vast opportunities in aquaculture and processing industries. Additionally, Prabowo urged further exploration in oil, gas, and critical minerals, emphasizing their potential for international investors. “Our marine and energy sectors hold extraordinary prospects, and we invite you to harness these opportunities for mutual growth,” he concluded.
