The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) has set an ambitious target for exports to grow by 7.1% in 2025, with the export growth for this year projected at 5.06%. This target is part of a broader strategy to support President Prabowo Subianto’s goal of achieving an 8% economic growth by 2029. Fajarini Puntodewi, Head of the Trade Policy Agency at Kemendag, explained that the Ministry has made detailed calculations to support this growth, and based on these projections, the government is focusing on accelerating export growth with targets ranging from 7.1% to 9.64%. Dewi highlighted this as an extraordinary goal during her speech at the Gambir Trade Talk #17 event, which took place on November 19, 2024, at the Borobudur Hotel in Jakarta. For 2025, Kemendag has set a target of 7.1% export growth, with the export value reaching USD 294.45 billion, while also projecting the national economy to grow by 5.06% during the same year.
Kemendag’s export targets continue to rise in the following years, with 2026 projected at 7.09% growth and USD 315.31 billion in exports. By 2027, the export growth target increases to 7.89%, reaching USD 340.2 billion, and in 2028, 8.77% growth with USD 370.04 billion in exports. In 2029, the Ministry is aiming for 9.64% growth, totaling USD 405.69 billion, in line with the 8% economic growth target. Indonesia’s exports from January to October 2024 reached USD 217.24 billion, a 1.33% increase, and Kemendag remains optimistic that the trade balance will end 2024 with a surplus.
