Retail Sector Projected to Bolster Indonesia's Economy in 2025

The retail and consumer sectors are anticipated to drive Indonesia's economic growth in 2025, according to venture capital firms in the country. Data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) indicates that household consumption grew by 4.91% YoY in Q3 2024, contributing 53.08% to Indonesia's GDP. Venture Partner Init-6, Rexi Christopher, expressed optimism for 2025 amid expectations of political stability both in Indonesia and globally. Speaking at the Consumer Market Update on November 19, 2024, Rexi highlighted the potential growth in retail and emerging consumer brands offering innovative solutions and alternative products. He underscored the firm's commitment to long-term growth, aiming for portfolio companies to achieve sustainability, IPOs, or acquisitions by larger entities.


Similarly, Dyah Trisnawaty, Portfolio and Advisory Head at OCBC Ventura, emphasized resilience among founders in leveraging data and insights to address challenges and accelerate growth. Dyah noted the firm’s role in facilitating additional funding to help companies scale and contribute to Indonesia’s economy. Valerianus Ian Sulaiman, VP of Investments at Trihill Capital, stressed the significance of political stability in shaping economic policies, citing Indonesia’s and the U.S.'s elections as key milestones. Ian expressed optimism for 2025, expecting stronger consumer purchasing power and robust business growth compared to 2024.
