Indonesia expressed its support for World Trade Organization (WTO) reforms to advance inclusive and sustainable trade. At the 35th APEC Ministerial Meeting (AMM) in Lima, Peru, on November 14, Minister of Trade Budi Santoso stressed the WTO’s role as a pillar of the multilateral trading system. He emphasized the need for open dialogue and meaningful reforms to enhance the WTO’s effectiveness, including accelerating the resolution of disputes, ensuring fair market access for agricultural products from developing nations, and empowering small and medium enterprises (SMEs) through technical assistance. Indonesia also highlighted the importance of addressing environmental challenges without creating trade barriers for developing economies.
In addition, Indonesia underlined the significance of the Asia-Pacific Free Trade Area (FTAAP) initiative in achieving the APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040. Director General Djatmiko Bris Witjaksono emphasized collaboration, capacity building, and flexibility to support APEC members at various development stages. Indonesia also focused on reducing food waste, transitioning to fair energy systems, and promoting hydrogen innovation. On the sidelines of AMM, Minister Budi held bilateral meetings with key trade partners, including Japan, Singapore, and Canada, to enhance trade relations. The discussions further emphasized Indonesia's commitment to fostering regional economic resilience and sustainable trade cooperation.
