Digital Industry and Green Industrialization Are Key to Achieving 8% Economic Growth Target

Digital industry and green industrialization are seen as key drivers for Indonesia to achieve its ambitious economic growth target of 8%. This statement was made by the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin), Anindya Bakrie, during his participation as one of the speakers at the APEC CEO Summit 2024, held in Lima, Peru. In his remarks, Anindya emphasized his personal focus on advancing green industrialization in Indonesia, particularly due to the country’s vast reserves of critical minerals. "I am personally focused on boosting our business capacity in green industrialization, as Indonesia is blessed with critical minerals beneath the ground," Anindya said in a written statement on Saturday, November 16, 2024.

Anindya also pointed out the urgent need to strengthen Indonesia's digital infrastructure to support the growth of its digital industry. This is especially critical given the country's large and dispersed population of around 280 million people across more than 17,000 islands. With major islands like Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Sumatra, and Papua, Indonesia faces unique challenges in providing equitable digital access. Furthermore, in terms of critical minerals, Anindya highlighted that Indonesia is not only rich in fossil fuels but also in minerals such as copper, nickel, and zinc, ranking among the top five globally in terms of these natural resources. He explained that Indonesia has the potential to process these minerals using its renewable energy resources—such as geothermal, hydro, solar, and wind—available across the equatorial region.
